Prior to the last two decades, the Oregon Ducks did not have an overwhelming football tradition. From 1916-88, the school appeared in only six bowl games. However, in the last 22 seasons, the Ducks have missed postseason action on just four occasions. Oregon has registered double-digit wins in six of the last 11 seasons after never having a year with at least 10 victories prior to 2000.
In basketball, the university has enjoyed some modest success, despite competing in the same conference as the mighty UCLA Bruins. The Ducks have made ten appearances in the NCAA tournament over the years. In conference play, Oregon has won six championships (4-regular season, 2-tournament).
Championship Seasons
Since becoming a member of the Pacific Conference in 1968, the Oregon Ducks have won five conference titles in football. Four of those championships have come since 2000. The 2001 squad finished second in the nation in an 11-1 season.
In 2010, the Ducks reached the national title game after winning the Pac-10 championship. Against Auburn, Oregon lost the championship game by a final of 22-19.
In basketball, the school has the distinction of being the initial NCAA tournament champion. In the 1938-39 season, Oregon defeated Ohio State in the national championship game.

Led by star running back LaMichael James, the 2011 Oregon Ducks will be seeking a return trip to the BCS championship game. Rivalry contests against USC and Oregon State will highlight this season's home slate.
