Two legendary Indiana Hoosiers coaches have largely been responsible for the school's outstanding basketball program. Branch McCracken (1938-39 to 1964-65) laid the foundation for hoops success at Indiana. He suffered only three losing seasons during his time with the Hoosiers.

In the seventies, the arrival of Bob Knight (1971-72 to 1999-2000) enabled Indiana to become an elite team again. In 29 seasons, he never had a losing season at the university. Only five of Knight's squads missed the NCAA tournament.

Overall, the Hoosiers have made 35 trips to March Madness. On eight occasions, the school has reached the Final Four. In addition, Indiana has captured 20 Big 10 regular season championships.

In a state that is passionate for all levels of basketball, it has been a tough journey for the Hoosiers on the football field. Indiana has been limited to just nine bowl game appearances and a lone Big 10 title (1967). 

Championship Seasons

The Indiana Hoosiers have won five NCAA basketball championships. McCracken won titles in 1939-40 and 1952-53. In his time on the sidelines at Indiana, Knight captured three national championships.

The 1975-76 squad is one of the greatest clubs in the history of the sport. With a perfect 32-0 mark, the 75-76 championship team is the last college squad to go undefeated.

On the gridiron, the Hoosiers play at Memorial Stadium (capacity of 52,929). The venue opened in 1960.

Indiana Hoosiers Tickets: 2011-12 Season

Under the direction of head coach Tom Crean and some promising young talent, the Indiana Hoosiers will be seeking a return to glory in 2011-12. The home schedule will feature several non-conference battles and a number of Big 10 contests.

In football, new head coach Kevin Wilson will try to get Indiana on the winning track. Conference games against Penn State and Purdue will be the top attractions on this year's home slate.
