The Temple Owls have won 65% of its basketball games over the years. The school has reached the NCAA tournament on 29 occasions with a pair of trips to the Final Four in the fifties.
In the mid-eighties, the program became one of the best in the nation under head coach John Chaney (1982-83 to 2005-06). From 1983-84 to 2000-01, the Owls missed only one NCAA tournament. The run included five Elite Eight appearances.
For basketball, Temple has played in the Atlantic-10 Conference since the 1982-83 season. In football, the university has been a member of the Mid-American Conference since 2007.
The Owls have struggled to find success in football, with just three bowl game appearances (1934, 1979 and 2009). Legendary coach Pop Warner guided the Owls to the Sugar Bowl in 1934 during his final stint on the sidelines. The 2009 club ended a string of 18 consecutive losing seasons for the school.

In basketball, the Temple Owls have won a total of 30 conference championships (20-regular season, 10-tournament).
Since joining the Atlantic-10, the Owls have captured eight regular season titles and nine tournament crowns. From 1997-98 to 2001-02, Chaney led Temple to four A-10 regular season championships during the five-year stretch. In three of the last four seasons, Temple has won the A-10 tournament.

Led by head coach Fran Dunphy, the Temple Owls will be out to claim a fifth consecutive NCAA tournament berth in the 2011-12 campaign. The club's home schedule will include several conference matchups.
On the gridiron, new head coach Steve Addazio will attempt to lead the Owls to a third straight winning season in 2011. A battle against the Penn State Nittany Lions will headline this year's home schedule.
