The South Florida Bulls football program began in 1997. After three years of play, the Bulls moved up to the division-one level. The school played as an independent before moving to Conference USA in 2003. Two years later, South Florida joined the Big East.
It hasn't taken long for the Bulls to become a respectable team. The school has suffered only one losing season in 11 years as a division-one squad. In 2007, South Florida stepped into the national spotlight after a 6-0 start. The club was ranked second in the nation at that point of the season before going 3-4 to finish the year.
In basketball, the Bulls have competed as a division-one team since the 1973-74 season. South Florida has made two appearances in the NCAA basketball tournament.
Championship Seasons
The South Florida Bulls have won two conference championships in basketball. In 1989-90, the Bulls won the Sun Belt Conference tournament. In the NCAA tournament, South Florida lost to the Arizona Wildcats by a final of 79-67 to finish 20-11 for the season. Ten years later, the school won the Conference USA regular season title, but was unable to get into the NCAA tourney with a 17-13 record.
