The all-instrumental band of Sound Tribe Sector 9 is, perhaps, one of the best jam bands of today. This quintet, often known for their outstanding, live performances, combines the sounds of heavy, instrumental rock and hip-hop with creative improvisation and interpretation.
The History of Sound Tribe Sector 9 Ticket
Formed near the end of the 1990s, Sound Tribe Sector 9 combines a unique, musical style with improvisation and jazzy funk tunes. The band, which relocated to North Carolina during the 2000s, boasts a dedicated fan base.
Sound Tribe Sector 9, also known as STS9, has released five albums, as well as one DVD and one remixed album. They manage their own label, 1320 Records, and have remained an independent band. They currently play at music festivals and concert venues throughout the country. Sound Tribe Sector 9 has achieved particular commercial success in the greater San Francisco Bay area, the greater Denver area, Asheville, North Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia.
Sound Tribe Sector 9's debut album, Interplanetary Escape Vehicle, was released in 1998. Although this album is certainly not indicative of the sound of the band today, it did focus on jazz grooves and instrumental funk. Their next two releases, Live (1999) and Offered Schematics Suggesting Peace (2000) were both successful endeavors, as the band began developing their unique sound and exploring the Mayan culture and mysticism (sector 9 refers to the Mayan calendar).
The band released Artifact in 2005 and released their first DVD in Fall 2006.
