As college football's oldest and most prestigious postseason game, the Rose Bowl is a New Year's Day sports tradition. Rose Bowl tickets enable fans to enjoy a college gridiron classic.
Rose Bowl Tickets: Historical Overview
The first Rose Bowl game was played on January 1, 1902 in Pasadena, California. Because the initial contest (Michigan defeated Stanford 49-0) was so lopsided, it would take 14 years for the Rose Bowl to return.
Since 1916, the game has been going strong. Even World War II could not disrupt the Rose Bowl! The 1942 contest was played on the campus of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina less than a month after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
From the beginning, the champion of the Pacific Conference (Pac-12) has usually been one of the participants in the game. Since 1947, the Pacific champion has squared off against the best team from the Big 10 Conference.
Currently, the Rose Bowl is part of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). Every four years, Pasadena will host the BCS title game, in addition to the regular Rose Bowl matchup. Unless a Big 10 and/or Pac-12 champion is in the BCS National Championship Game, the Rose Bowl will attempt to feature a traditional game between the top two teams from each conference.
Since 1923, the game has been played at the historical Rose Bowl (capacity of 92,542) stadium.
