Pittsburgh Pirates Tickets: A Winning Tradition
The Pirates originated in the late 1800s and experienced success quickly, actually making it to the first modern World Series ever played in 1903, where they lost to Boston.
During these years, they would dominate the National league in large part due to Honus Wagner, considered by many to be the best shortstop to ever play the game, and they would win their first World Series in 1909 and again in 1925.
After several long seasons, the Pirates put together a team for the ages, with players like Vern Law, Dick, Groat, Elroy Face, Bill Mazeroski, and the great Roberto Clemente - who would contribute to the Pirates winning the World Series again in 1960.

We Are Family!
Imagine showing up every night at the ballpark with 40,000 of your closest family members. In 1979, the Pirates unified Pittsburgh with an ongoing theme throughout the season, as the song "We Are Family" became their daily anthem.
Led by Willie "Pops" Stargell, who would award teammates with "Stargell Stars" on their caps for excellent plays on the field, and boasting a lineup that included Dave Parker, Omar Moreno, Ed Ott, Phil Garner, Bill Madlock, and Kent Tekulve, among others, the Pirates would finish the season with 98 wins and the NL East Title.
They would go on to sweep the Reds to win the Pennant and reach the World Series against the Baltimore Orioles. In a rematch of the 1971 Series, the Pirates would find themselves down three games to one in the best of seven. They would win 3 games in a row, including the last two in Baltimore, to capture their fifth franchise World Series!

These Pirate Days
The Pirates have an emerging star in young center fielder Andrew McCutchen. Last season, he led the team average and can also steal his share of bases, which makes him true catalyst for the offense. The Pirates have picked up first baseman Lyle Overbay, who hopes to continue his decent production year in and year out. Garret Jones, who led the team in HRS with 21 last season, will move to right field with the addition of Overbay.
