Philadelphia Flyers Tickets: History of the Broad Street Bullies
The Flyers came into the NHL in 1967 as part of the league's expansion and would make the playoffs in their very first year. Improving their record and making the playoffs in their second year would satisfy most GMs, but the team was "man handled" in the first round of the playoffs, and the mandate was set: draft tougher players!
By 1973, the team had players like Dave Schultz, Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber, Rick Macleish, and Bernie Parent and would impose their will at every turn. In 1973, they finished with their first winning record and would go on to beat the Minnesota North Stars in the first round of the playoffs, advancing for the first time. Though they were knocked out in the second round by the Canadiens, the Broad Street Bullies were born, as they had established themselves as THE toughest team in the league.

The Intimidation Factor in the Stanley Cups
The Flyers' rough and tumble style of play began to produce results. Not only would they score more goals than their opponents, but often their games were filled with bench clearing brawls. Flyers winger Dave Schultz would amass 378 penalty minutes during the 1974 regular season. With their style of play, their home ice at The Spectrum became one of the most intimidating places to play, along with the vocal support of 17,000 harsh fans.
In 1974, the Philadelphia Flyers would compile a franchise high of 50 victories en route to the Western Division title. They would advance to the finals for the first time, and a game six victory in Philly over the Bruins gave the Flyers their first ever Stanley Cup!
The following season Dave Schultz would reach 472 penalty minutes, Bobby Clarke would be named MVP, and the Flyers improved to 51 wins for the season. They would march through the playoffs to capture their second cup in a row!
Watch Them Fly!
This season, the Philadelphia Flyers are led by the little speedster Danny Briere, who should have another 30 plus goal season. Having a tremendous year so far is center Mike Richards, as he leads the team in scoring. On the defensive end, veteran Chris Pronger ads great leadership, and between the pipes, Brian Boucher is playing well. Get your Philadelphia Flyers tickets today and see all the action!
