Calling All Angels!
Having come close over the years but never able to make it to the World Series, the Angels had a magical year in 2002. Instead of winning their division, they were playoff eligible by virtue of securing their first ever wildcard berth. The Angels would dispatch their old nemesis the Yankees in 4 games and then would capture the American league pennant with a 5 game series win over the Twins, earning their first ever trip to the World Series against the San Francisco Giants.
In an amazing, exhilarating, back and forth series, both teams would battle hard, and the series would go seven games. Leading in the series three games to two and with a 5 to 0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, it looked as if the Giants were on their way to winning the championship. The Angels, however, would rally with 6 runs over the next two innings to win and force a game seven. The Angels would come through with a 4 to 1 victory in game seven and capture their first ever World Series Championship!
Building on Tradition
Entering his 12 year as head coach, Mike Scioscia has great young talent to work with this season. Power hitter Kendry Morales hopes to regain his form from two years ago after a broken leg sidelined him last year. Always strong up the middle, Erick Aybar and Howie Kendrick are ones to watch this season, and veteran gold glover and clubhouse leader Torii Hunter looks to continue his stellar career.
