These two musicians originally formed the New York-based band Wicked Lester, which never really took hold, as its first album fell flat.

In 1972, Simmons and Stanley abandoned their original group in search of a hotter sound. They linked up with drummer Peter Criss and lead guitarist Ace Frehley and the name Kiss was adopted by the group.
