Prior to the last two decades, the Kansas State Wildcats had struggled to win on the football field. The program didn't reach a bowl game for the first time until 1982.
Kansas State finally learned how to succeed under the direction of head coach Bill Snyder. After taking over on the sidelines in 1989, Snyder built up the Wildcats into a team that would reach 11 straight bowl games from 1993-03. During this period, Kansas State also recorded six top 10 finishes.
In basketball, the program has been a little more consistent over the years. From 1947-48 to 1963-64, the school made four appearances in the Final Four. The 1950-51 team reached the NCAA title game, but fell to Kentucky. Overall, the Wildcats have reached the NCAA tournament on 25 occasions.
Championship Seasons
After failing to win a single conference title in the Big 8 (1960-95), the Kansas State Wildcats were finally able to break through with a Big 12 football championship in 2003. In the conference title game, Kansas State rolled to a 35-7 victory over a top-ranked Oklahoma squad.
Over on the hoops side, the Wildcats were able to capture 15 Big 8 regular season titles in a stretch of 30 seasons (1947-48 to 1976-77). The program also came away with a pair of Big 8 tournament crowns (1977 and 1980).
