Houston Astros Tickets: A Team Cleared for Lift Off
Houston's Major League Baseball franchise was founded in 1962 as the Colt .45s, and three years later, they became the Astros, as they moved into the iconic Houston Astrodome, the world's first domed stadium. The team's name was in honor of Houston's role in the country's emerging space program, and the dome would fill up, as fans wanted to see indoor baseball for the first time.
Early on, it was discovered that real grass had a hard time growing indoors, and that led to the invention of Astroturf, or the first artificial turf to be used in major sports. With players such as Joe Morgan and Sonny Jackson, the first Astros to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and with the new turf and playing in the "Eighth Wonder of the World," the team would persevere through its early years.

Victory At Last!
After coming within a game and a half of first place the year before, the Astros entered 1980 determined to make the playoffs. With a roster boasting such players as Joe Morgan, Enos Cabell, Jose Cruz, Cesar Cedeno, and Nolan Ryan, the Astros would win 93 games to capture their first ever National League West Title. They would repeat the feat again in 1981 and 1986!
The winning attitude had set in, and the Astros would reach the late 90s with a team featuring Craig Biggio, Jeff Bagwell, Lance Berkman, and Brad Ausmus, among others. Starting in 1997, this team would make the playoffs in six out of the next nine years.
In 2005, the Astros would defeat the Braves and Cardinals to capture their first ever National League Pennant! Come and catch the great action with your Houston Astros tickets today!
