The History of Emmylou Harris Tickets
Born on April 2, 1947, Emmylou Harris spent much of her childhood in North Carolina; although she moved to Virginia during her teen years and went onto win a scholarship to the University of North Carolina, where she studied music by Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. After graduating, she became a staple at Gerdes Folk City, where she met many fellow musicians.
After getting married in 1969, she released her debut album, Gliding Bird. Soon after, the record label filed for bankruptcy, she had a child, and her marriage fell apart. After her divorce -and with very little money - she moved back in with her parents, along with her child, in their home in Washington, D.C.
It was there she began performing again. Gram Parsons noticed her in a local club and began teaching Emmylou about country music. He then asked her to sing on his solo debut album. She also began singing backup for him and helped him cut his landmark album, Grievous Angel. Just weeks after his album was released, Parsons died of a drug and alcohol overdose.
Emmylou remained in D.C. and began working on her solo, major-label debut album, Pieces of the Sky. This album, along with her next 10 albums, was produced by Brian Ahern, who also went on to become her second husband.
Emmylou Harris, in addition to earning a reputation for being one of country music's biggest female stars, teamed up with the likes of Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, George Jones, Willie Nelson and Gram Parsons, just to name a few, for a number of successful duets.
