Detroit Tigers Tickets: Motor City Baseball
The Tigers are one of Major League Baseball's eight charter teams, having begun play in 1894. The early years saw the team acquire a fearless player with a mean streak named Ty Cobb! Cobb is considered one of the greatest players of all time and led the Tigers to their first Pennant in 1907, as well as three straight World Series appearances. The team would lose the World Series four times before finally winning their first championship in 1935.

A Season to Remember
In 1984, the Tigers shot out of the gate by winning their first 9 games and were 35 and 5 after forty games. They go on for a wire to wire season, capturing the AL East by 15 games.
Led by manager Sparky Anderson, the Tigers had plenty of offense with Kirk Gibson, Lance Parrish, and Chet Lemon combining for 80 homeruns and 270 RBIs. DH Darrell Evans also contributed with 16 HRs and 63 RBIs. Willie Hernandez would come out of the bullpen to save 32 games while striking out 112, which earned him the Cy Young and MVP awards!
The Tigers would sweep the Royals to win the Pennant and then face the Padres in the World Series. Needing just one more win to capture the championship, game five was close in the eighth inning, with the Tigers holding just a one run lead. With two on, Kirk Gibson would crush a Goose Gossage fastball into the right field upper deck, and the Tigers would go on to an 8 to 4 victory and their fourth franchise Championship!

Repeating History This Season
This season, the Tigers will try to capture the magic that sent them to the World Series in '06! First baseman Miguel Cabrera should lead the team, as he has averaged 36 HRs and 120 RBIs over the past three seasons for the Tigers. Also adding support will be third baseman Brandon Inge, who has hit 27 HRs twice in his career. Speedy centerfielder Austin Jackson makes things happen when he gets on base, while solid veteran Magglio Ordonez looks to stay healthy and regain his form.
