The Colorado Rapids are one of the ten original teams in Major League Soccer (MLS). The franchise is based in the Denver market. After playing at Mile High Stadium and Invesco Field from 1996-2006, the Rapids moved into an outstanding new facility in 2007. Dick's Sporting Goods Park (capacity of 19,680) is located in Commerce City, Colorado. The soccer-specific venue is an ideal place to enjoy all of the MLS action.

In 15 years of competition, Colorado has made ten postseason appearances. While the Rapids have been in the playoffs more often than not, the squad has never finished higher than third in the Western Conference regular season standings. Also, the team has been limited to just four winning campaigns in its history.

At home, Colorado has recorded an average attendance of more than 14,000 fans per contest since entering the league. In 2002, the franchise set an attendance mark by averaging more than 20,000 spectators per home outing.

While Colorado hasn't been a dominant team in the MLS, the club has enjoyed several notable runs in the postseason. In 1997, the Rapids appeared in the second MLS Cup. Colorado was able to advance to the championship game despite a fourth-place regular season finish in the Western Conference. Against the inaugural MLS champions, the Rapids dropped a 2-1 decision against D.C. United in Washington D.C.  

It would take more than a decade for the franchise to return to the MLS Cup. In 2010, Colorado once again made a surprising run in the playoffs after a fifth-place finish in the conference. In a battle against FC Dallas in Toronto, the Rapids won the championship with a 2-1 victory. Connor Casey captured the MVP honors in the win for Colorado.  

In terms of standout performers for the Rapids over the years, four players have been inducted into the team's Gallery of Honor. The inductees are Marcelo Balboa, Paul Bravo, Chris Henderson and John Spencer. With more than 40 goals, Casey is the all-time top scorer in the franchise's history.
