Boston Red Sox Tickets: History of the Curse
The Red Sox were part of the original eight founding franchises of Major League Baseball and found early success when they defeated the Pirates in the first World Series in 1903 and won four more championships by 1918.
Then in an unprecedented move, they traded the great Babe Ruth to the Yankees, and many dubbed this the Curse of the Bambino! Hence, after their 1918 championship, the team would not make the playoffs until 1946 when they lost in the World Series. They would then go on for another 20 seasons without making the playoffs until 1967, when they lost in the finals again!
They would lose the World Series twice more in 1975 and 1986, the latter of which was especially painful, as the Sox were three outs away in game six from winning it all - but the game and series slipped away.

Breaking the Spell
In 2004, led by players such as Big Papi David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Johnny Damon, Jason Varitek, Kevin Millar, Pedro Martinez, and Curt Schilling, the Red Sox finished the season with 98 wins and 3 games behind their rival Yankees for second place in the AL East, but good enough for a wild card spot in the playoffs.
The Red Sox would beat the Angels in the first round, only to find themselves going up against the dreaded Yankees with the Pennant on the line. The Yankees would win the first three games, even scoring 18 runs in the third game to take a commanding lead in the series and surely setting up another post season failure for the Sox.
In what would be the first ever 0-3 series comeback in baseball playoff history, the Red Sox would scratch and claw their way to four straight victories, including two in extra innings, and they would capture the AL Pennant!
Now with history on their side and ready to bash the Curse once and for all, the Red Sox would sweep the Cardinals, never trailing once in the series, and would capture their first World Series since 1918!
The Bosox This Season
This season, to help Big Papi and his usual solid numbers, the Red Sox picked up Adrian Gonzalez from the Padres. Gonzalez topped 30 HRs and 100 RBIs for the fourth time in his career last season and should enjoy the small confines of Fenway Park. Veterans J.D. Drew and Dustin Pedroia should also add solid numbers this season as well.
