BYU Cougars Tickets: Historical Overview

When LaVell Edwards became the head football coach of the BYU Cougars in 1972, the program had never made a single bowl game appearance. Over the next 29 seasons, he would turn BYU into an elite program.  Edwards took the Cougars to 22 bowl games during his tenure. He also put together a run of 26 consecutive winning campaigns from 1974-99.

More recently, the Cougars were able to win ten or more games in four straight years (2006-09) under current head coach Bronco Mendenhall.

In basketball, BYU has been a consistent winner. The school has reached the NCAA tournament on 26 occasions. The Cougars are on a current run of five consecutive trips to March Madness.

Championship Seasons

The BYU Cougars dominated the WAC with Edwards on the sidelines. From 1974-96, his teams won an amazing total of 18 conference championships. The incredible stretch included ten straight conference crowns from 1976-85.

In 1984, the Cougars recorded a perfect mark in the regular season. In the Holiday Bowl, BYU had a chance to claim an unlikely national title against the Michigan Wolverines. With a 24-17 victory, the Cougars won the championship.

In basketball, BYU has captured 28 conference titles (25-regular season, 3-tournament). The school has won the Mountain West Conference regular season championship in four of the last five seasons.

BYU Cougars Tickets: 2011-12 Season

In 2011, the BYU Cougars will begin play as an independent football program. A classic rivalry battle against the Utah Utes will be the showcase contest on this year's home schedule. BYU Cougars tickets are also available for home outings against Central Florida, Utah State, San Jose State, Idaho State, Idaho and New Mexico State.

In hoops, the 2011-12 Cougars will debut in the West Coast Conference. A matchup against the Gonzaga Bulldogs will be among the games on this season's home slate.
