Southern Methodist (SMU) Mustangs Tickets

With a colorful football history that has featured some notable ups and downs, the SMU Mustangs are always an intriguing team to watch. SMU Mustangs tickets enable fans to enjoy adrenaline-pumping football action.

SMU Mustangs Tickets: Historical Overview

In football, the SMU Mustangs competed in the Southwest Conference from 1918-95. During the period, SMU was able to reach a bowl game on 11 occasions. Five of those outings were in major bowl games on New Year's Day.

The eighties marked some highs and lows for the program. Led by the running back duo of Eric Dickerson and Craig James, the Mustangs lost only five games from 1981-84. However, the great run would be tainted by some major NCAA violations. In a stunning move, SMU was not allowed to field a team for the 1987 season. While the Mustangs returned to action in 1989, the scandal left the program in shambles for the next two decades.

On the basketball side, SMU has made ten appearances in the NCAA tournament. The school's lone trip to the Final Four was in the 1955-56 season.

Championship Seasons

In the Southwest Conference, the SMU Mustangs were able to win ten conference titles in football. Three of those championships came during the "Pony Express" stretch in the early eighties. The 1982 club was undefeated heading into the final game of the regular season. However, the Mustangs had to settle for a tie against Arkansas prior to the Cotton Bowl. SMU finished second in the nation behind Penn State in an 11-0-1 season.

In basketball, the school has posted 13 regular season conference titles. SMU's lone conference tournament championship was in the 1987-88 season.

The SMU Mustangs compete in one of the nation's newest football stadiums. The Gerald J. Ford Stadium (capacity of 32,000) opened prior to the 2000 campaign. SMU Mustangs tickets are a great entertainment option for a Saturday afternoon or evening during the football season.

On the hardwood, SMU plays its games at Moody Coliseum (capacity of 8,998).
