Sergio Mendes is a Brazilian artist who has experienced success since the 1960s. Releasing music that has appealed to both the domestic pop and international market, Sergio Mendes is a worldwide star and has consistently remained a popular figure for the last four decades.

The History of Sergio Mendes Tickets

Born in Niteroi, Brazil, Sergio Mendes began studying classical music when he was a small boy. Although his original intent was to become a classical pianist, at age 15, he abandoned classical music in favor of bossa nova, which was the rage in Rio de Janeiro at that time. He soon developed his own bossa nova group, called the Sexteto Bossa Rio, and he released his first recording, Dance Moderno, in 1961.

After an impromptu performance with Cannonball Adderly in 1962, Sergio Mendes and Adderly released an album through Capitol Records later than year. In 1964, Mendes made the move to New York and formed the band Brasil '65 (later renamed Brasil '66), who were then signed to A&M Records.

Their first, self-titled album, which rose to number six on a national level, was a combination of light jazz, with a bossa nova beat and soft, pop melodies. Their second and third albums were also a success, and they produced such hits as "For Me," "Fool on the Hill" and "Scarborough Fair."

Mendes also made several recording through Atlantic Records, much of which was aimed at a jazz audience. His group moved to Bell Records in 1973 and soon broke off to Elektra for his first solo, self-titled album. He took a five-year break from the public eye and then reemerged in 1983 with his comeback album, Sergio Mendes.

Sergio Mendes has been working consistently since then, releasing work through Brasil '99 and Brasil 2000. He released the album, Bom Temp, in 2010.
