Born and raised in Philadelphia, Patti began singing in the church choir at an early age.  When she was in high school, she would form a singing group called the Ordettes, which began playing local night clubs and honky tonks in and around the Philadelphia area.  Eventually, the group would sign a recording contract and become Patti Labelle and the Bluebelles.  With years of success behind them, the group eventually split up.  

Patti embarked on a solo career and would release her self titled debut album in 1977, which received critical acclaim but did not sell well.  She would follow up with "Tasty" in 1978 and "It's Alright With Me," in 1979.  It wasn't until 1983's "I'm In Love Again" featuring the hit single "If Only You Knew" that she began to find success as a solo artist.  1985's release "Patti" featured her number one hit "New Attitude" and essentially launched her popularity worldwide!
