Born on February 12, 1988, in Southfield, Michigan, Mike Posner graduated from Groves High School and Duke University.  He graduated from Duke with a degree in sociology, a certificate in markets and management, and an impressive 3.59 GPA.

It was during his college years, between studies, that he began his love of music. He began writing melodic rap songs for the college scene, and as such, his music of the time was often related to fraternity culture, dorm culture and the trials and tribulations of young adulthood.

Before graduating, he made several mixed tapes, which went to the top of the iTunes chart in the summer of 2009. After graduating, in the summer of 2010, he released his debut album, entitled 31 Minutes to Takeoff. The first single from the album, "Cooler Than Me," hit number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
