Raised in Hannah, South Carolina, Josh Turner sang in his church choir and also formed a quartet called the "Thankful Hearts" in which he sang bass and occasional lead.  After high school, he went on to pursue his music at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.  However, in 1996, before he got to Belmont, doctors discovered a lesion on his right vocal cord, and it was recommended that he not sing for a whole year!

While he rested his voice back at home, he learned classical vocal techniques and how to take care of his voice and avoid developing further problems.  Equipped with a very talented and deep southern voice, he wrote songs and played on occasion, but it wasn't until 2001 that he was invited to perform at the Grand Ol' Opry where he sang one of his future hit songs, ""Long Black Train," which was greeted by a standing ovation.

By 2003, he would produce his first album of the same name, and before long, it peaked at number 4 on the U.S. Country Bill Board Charts in 2004.  By the end of 2006, Josh had produced his second album "Your Man" and had received two Grammy nominations for Best Male Country Vocal Performance and for Best Country Album.  By 2010, Josh Turner had released his third and fourth studio albums, which produced his fourth overall number one single in the U.S Country Charts.
